The whole experience was pretty incredible. I'm really not sure what we liked most...hanging out in the pits, the preshow quad wars or the main event. All five of us were in awe. Since we had never been before, we really didn't know how loud it would be. Honestly, the only drawback of this event was the noise level. We came prepared with earplugs that helped out tremendously, but our 2 year old would not wear them and I was the most concerned about him. I would recommend this event for anyone over the age of 3 and not younger. We are so excited about this event, and the kids are already asking when they can go back. This was such a fun family experience!

Project Life | Week 3

This week was really all about Taylor and her party. But I also wanted to include a couple other points of interest. One is a flyer from our church on the new sermon series called "Distinctly Different". The series just started and we are already learning a lot from it. This second thing to make memory of is that Ryland uses the potty exclusively...as long as we keep him naked. As soon as the pull-up or underwear are on, all potty training has ceased. So when we are home, he runs around naked. Sound normal? Ha!

Taylor had a special birthday party here at our house. She selected all of the "girls" who she wanted me to invite...mainly friends from school...and said boys weren't allowed. She made a concession for Grandpa and Daddy and her brothers. She did request that the brothers stay in their room during her party. I told her that was not an option. She cracks me up!

More photos from her party and a copy of her inviation that I made. We rented a princess bounce house to go with the party's theme. Taylor specifically asked for an Ariel party. She said no to Barbie and no to Hello Kitty. My girl knows what she wants and usually gets what she wants. We might need to work on that ;-)

On the backside of the invitation, I included her birthday cards and sewed them in a page protector. My dear friend Carrie and her daughter Elly made Taylor the sweetest cake ever. It was an ocean cake with the mermaids sitting on the beach (crushed graham crackers). It was perfect!

Project Life | Week 2

Week 2 had a few fun activities. The first was taking our Wyld Life team (and kiddos) to Anthem's Wyld Life club to check them out. I got some great photos of Hank and Ryland participating in the games and an adorable close-up photo of Landon.

Saturday was Elly's 6th birthday party so Taylor and Landon went and enjoyed themselves...especially the cupcakes. Elly is the one of the sweetest friends that Taylor has!

Saturday night we took the kids to Glendale Glitters for their closing night known as GLOW. They had several grounded hot air balloons and rides like the ferris wheel. We took the kids on the ferris wheel for the first time and they loved every second of it. They had no fear at all.

One of the hot air balloon owners asked if me and the kids wanted to jump in and check it out. Ryland gave me the death grip every time they lit up the balloon. It was quite loud and intimidating but a great experience.

This weekend we took the kids to Glendale Glitters for their annual closing Glow Night. Grounded hot air balloons are littered throughout the area and twinkle. Although it is extremely crowded, we love it. This year the kids were big enough to go on the ferris wheel so we took them. $20 bucks later, our kids were happy little creatures and loved their first experience on the ferris wheel. Recently a dear friend asked me to become a public relations ambassador for some local, upcoming events. Project Life | Week 1

I am beyond exited to start Project Life up again for the third year in a row. My preserving of memories may seem a little excessive to some, but my hope is that my children will cherish these albums when they are grown. Taylor and Landon already help themselves to the scrapbooks and pull them down to look through the photos. It's a continual story of our lives...not perfect by any means but overflowing with blessings from everyday life. I am also thrilled that some of my friends will be taking on this project too. Yay!

A good week...Hank had Monday off from work, the kids went back to school, and I only had to work one day this week. I have been working way more than normal and it was nice to have this slower, shorter week to transition back into reality. I've also decided it's almost time to potty train Ryland. I think he will be ready in a matter of weeks. That means no more diapers in our home! On New Year's Day, we went over to my in-laws for pizza and games. Carol taught us how to play GOLF, the card game, and it was simple enough for Landon to play too. He loved it! I think he definitely has the "gaming" gene from me.

Almost every night this week, we drank up the sparkling apple cider I had bought for New Year's Eve. The kids loved it...especially in their own plastic champaigne glasses. Ryland liked it a little too much. Ha! We also had our dear friends, the Widneys, over for dinner one night. They are good company always! Landon came down with a little something so he wasn't able to attend a classmate's school party with his sister Taylor at a local tumbling center. Taylor sure had a great time!

Week 52 | Project Life

Christmas Day started off our week. We spent the morning at home slowly opening gifts and then getting ready to head to my brother's house in Chandler to celebrate with the rest of my family and enjoy Christmas dinner together. It was a great day indeed!

The rest of the week included Hank giving Landon beginner lessons on the boys' new drumset; Hank trying out his new BBQ; and having friends over from church and making smores in the backyard firepit. Hank was off the full week and it went by entirely too quickly. 2011 has come and gone and now I am preparing myself for another round of Project Life. Here's to hoping that 2012 is one of our best years yet!

Week 51 | Project Life

It's hard to believe that 2011 is almost over! This was my second round at project life and I am thankful that I have been able to capture precious memories especially the ones while our children are so young. This week was important to our faith and our family. On Sunday, Hank and I stood up before our church and family members to say that we dedicate our children to God and that we are up for the task of raising them to love and honor Christ. No little task by the way! It was also the week before Christmas when I worked a little overtime and still need to start shopping for Christmas. One night during this week was also dedicated to celebrating cousin Laila's third birthday at Peter Piper Pizza.

Our church hosted a "Christmas under the Stars" night at a local park. It was quite cold out, but the hot chocolate and glazed donuts made up for it. Landon even roasted a marshmellow or two.

On Christmas Eve, Hank's side of the family came over to celebrate. We exchanged gifts, ate chili, watched the kids take turns on playing the new drum set, and watched National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

Ryland wasn't too fond of Santa this year. He kept moving Santa's hand off of him but didn't say a word. It was quite humorous to watch. Taylor and Landon weren't shy though. They told Santa that they were good kids but that Ryland was a bad boy. Ha! They make me laugh.

Week 50 | Project Life

Since the week started off on a Sunday, I asked Carol to give me some of the photos from their picnic and trip up to Anthem to take the train ride and play. There were some great photos that I printed and enjoyed adding to Week 50's layout.

The rest of the week consisted of insane busyness. Besides working 20+ hours, Taylor and I took a couple of hours together to make her message in a bottle birthday invitations for her upcoming all girls "Ariel" birthday party. That was quite fun! Taylor and Landon also had their Christmas School Program on Friday night and sang 6 songs from memory...most in English but some in Spanish. Then on Saturday night we had a cookie decorating party for the kids with some really great couples Hank and I know from college. It's been a busy, stressful yet fun week for us.

It's hard to believe there are only two weeks left for Project Life. This is the second year that I have completed this project. I love it as much now as I did the very first day I started. I'm thankful to have something meaningful to pass down to my children and hope they will treasure these albums as much as I do. It's amazing to see how much the kids change from week to week let alone month to month.

Week 49 | Project Life

This week consisted of some memorable events. Grandpa Joe celebrated his 81st birthday, I finally received the table I had been waiting months for, and I was marketing to the school that I went to as a very little girl in Phoenix. Walking around the campus brought back so many memories...like the one where I wore my flower girl dress to school and married Ben on the playground. Funny...the things we do and can remember!

This week also consisted of Wyld Life Camp up in Williams, Arizona at Lost Canyon. Hank's parents watched the kids so that Hank could have a weekend off while I took serveral junior highers up north. Such a great experience and true blessing to pour my life into junior high kids who are trying to figure out life and themselves. While I was gone, Hank put up the dreaded Christmas lights. It literally took him most of the day. But the kids sure love them and make the task worth it!

Week 48 | Project Life

We drove home Sunday from Albuquerque and came home to loads and loads of laundry that needed to be done. On top of that, Taylor was insistent that we get our tree up as promised. This year, Taylor and Landon decorated the tree almost entirely by themselves. Hank put the star on the top of the tree and I put the garland on but all of the ornaments were done by the older two. After smashing three glass bulbs, Ryland finally learned not to do that anymore.

This page included photos from our last Wyld Life Club of the year. The theme was Christmas Club so it was fun to dress up and act silly....like always. I also included the photo with Santa that I picked up from Sears as well as our Christmas card. Finally, on Saturday night we had a family movie and hot chocolate which the kids absolutely loved drinking hot chocolate from their sippy cups. This is my favorite time of year even though it stresses me out a bit.

Week 47 | Project Life

Week 47 is all about Colorado. On Sunday, we arrived at Uncle Tim and Aunt Vickey's home where we stayed for three nights and explored much of Denver. My kids fell in love with their dog Sydney. In fact, they would have allowed us to take her home with us. Somehow, I wimped out on the offer. While in Denver, we visited with lots of family.

Our first full day in Denver...we bundled up and headed to explore downtown Denver and the Children's Museum.

First day up in Fairplay, Colorado. The cabin was huge and could sleep over 30 people easily. This was where we spent the second half of our week. The kids absolutely loved the cabin and the snow.

Thanksgiving day was low key and filled with precious moments with family members. Aunt Vickey had craft time with all of the kids. Such a great woman she is!

Week 46 | Project Life

Week 46 was another jam-packed week...aren't they all though! Sunday afternoon I took all three kids to a birthday party at Pump It Up for a classmate, Axel, who turned 4. This was Ryland's first experience at Pump It Up and he sure loved it. I knew he would though...remember this kid has no fear. On this page, I also included the main events of the week. Packing for a family of five was my least favorite.

I stored all of the kids Thanksgiving art projects inside this giant envelope. It will be great to look back in 10 years and see what the kids made when they were little.

The rest of the week included puzzle time with Taylor, photos with Santa at Grandma's work, Wyld Life Turkey Bowling Club, more packing and cleaning, and the long trek to Denver.

NEW 52 | Children's Museum of Denver

On our first real day of vacation in beautiful Colorado, we visited the Children's Museum of Denver. It was similar to the one we have here, but different enough to make it a totally different experience. They had a room where the kids could stand on a platform with walls of bubbles all around them. They also had a veterinarian clinic that was so cool and hands on. I took way too many photos and will have a hard time choosing my favorites. At the end of our visit, all three kids played in the market and did their grocery shopping for almost an hour. I told Grandpa Don he needs to figure out how to build a market quick! Anything to keep them happy and busy is good.

We travelled for a total of four days to Denver and then back home. And the time with family up in the beautiful snow-capped mountains in Colorado were completely worth the drive. We spent time with aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and my in-laws. We were able to relax as much as you can with three little ones running around con.stant.ly....They were so excited to see and taste fresh snow. We will forever cherish the memories we made on this trip. Scrapbooking our time away will be so fun!

Week 45 was a little bit calmer of a week. It started off with a church potluck after Sunday service. It was great to be with friends and enjoy the yummy creations that everyone contributed. Taylor sat with Addie, her buddy. I also included a photo of the cell phone that Hank and I upgraded to. It's more of a toy than anything!

The photos from this page include a photo of my current projects: scrapbooking. Finally, I am all caught up again. I also include photos of our time over at our friends house for dinner, me reading a nighttime story to the kids, craft time and a photo of Taylor practicing her hip hop. She danced for three hours this day. It's sound crazy but we have make-up classes to cram in and Taylor loves every minute that she is at the dance studio.

{WEEK 44}

Halloween night was extra special this year because my aunt Monica who lives in Canada came down for a visit and went trick or treating with us. My aunt said this night was one of her favorite memories of her vacation down here. I love that she gets to see my children and that they get to see some of my long-distance family.

{WEDNESDAY} The kids had their annual Halloween party at school. I was the homeroom chairperson to organize the party which meant that I was able to be with all three kids and take photos at their party. This year, they combined the toddler and preschool class for the party so Ryland was in on the fun too!

Trick or Treat

The only trick this Halloween was figuring out how to "temporarily" color Taylor's hair at the last minute. In the late afternoon, she decided she wanted to be Ariel. So a little red food coloring did the trick. My parents and my aunt took the kids trick or treating while I walked along with them and took photos. Hank was back at the house hosting a BBQ party in the driveway.

Every year, our community HOA puts on a fall festival called Harvest Daze. It is really a fun event. The kids can choose from many activities but they always want to spend all of their time on the bounce houses. Since it gets dark fairly early now, our stress level increased greatly around 6:00 pm. I had three different kids running in three different directions. At one point, I lost Landon because he escaped one bounce house without me knowing and ended up in an entirely different one. Next year, we are bringing more adults to help supervise. They even had a great band playing but since we were so stressed, we just ended up leaving to come home around 8:00 pm. This was our last party until Halloween night. Taylor put on her cupcake costume and Landon opted to be the policeman. He even gave me and Daddy a ticket for making him go home earlier than he wanted to. I tell you this kid cracks me up!

This weekend we had another Halloween party at Hank's work in downtown Phoenix. Hank enjoyed showing his family off to his coworkers and the kids enjoyed the activities. Out of all the activities available, Taylor and Landon enjoyed painting the most. Landon decided to dress up in his doctor outfit which fit perfectly since Hank works at the College of Medicine. One of Hank's coworkers asked Landon if he was going to be a doctor when he grew up. He said "yes" because he wants to take care of his family. I thought that was the sweetest thing ever!

New 52 | The Play Factory

Yesterday we tried out an indoor playground for kids. It's really a perfect set-up for kids toddler to seven years old. The Play Factory at Desert Ridge Mall has an indoor rock climbing wall, bouncy slide and obstacle course. And Fridays are only $5 admission per child. Score! My kids played for almost three hours straight and cried when we finally had to leave. What made this first time experience really special is that we were able to visit with my aunt Monica who just flew down from Canada.

Landon decided to be Spiderman while Taylor turned into Snow White for their party at Gymboree. As we were getting Landon dressed, he asked me what the foam was in his costume. I said, "Those are your muscles buddy." He smiled real wide and said, "They're big!" Such a cute boy!

Week 42 | Project Life

This week I captured four different events even though so much more happened in our week. Grandma Carol picks up the kids from school every Tuesday and Wednesday. This week, she packed a lunch and took them to a local park. I got off from work a little early and met her at the park to retrieve the kiddos. I took photos of the kids playing and wanted to include one with her since this is our life right now. We also had a family night at the kids' school. I took photos of their work and included a picture that Taylor colored for me. The orange sheet is my journaling of the week since all of the photo inserts were used up with photos.

This page includes an invite to a neighbor's Halloween party and a few photos from that event where we brought our own pumpkin for the kids to decorate. The kids had such a great time that all three of them were crying as we walked home. I know....we are such mean parents to make them come home at almost 9:00 pm to shower and go to bed! The other photos are from a princess birthday party that Taylor was invited to. Even though Taylor doesn't attend Cross of Glory, we still keep in touch with a few families. Payton is one of Taylor's friends from her class last year. Taylor dressed up as princess Ariel and all of the little girls had a great time.

NEW 52 | Just Dance 2 Wii

Holy cow! We went to a 40th birthday party last night and played tons of games. We were dancing to the Just Dance 2 Wii game for the first time and loved it! It was so funny and a great workout. Hank was up dancing a few times with his buddies, and we did one dance together where I legitimately kicked his butt! He was quite the character and made us all laugh. Can't wait to do this again!

NEW 52 | Taylor Gets Her Ears Pierced

Yesterday around 4:00 pm, Taylor told me that she wanted her ears pierced and she wanted them tonight. She said if we waited to do it in a few days, she might get too scared and not do it. So, I jumped on this chance while her courage was strong. After a quick phone call to Daddy for his approval, I swooped up the kids into the car and headed to Claire's at our local mall. I had called ahead to make sure that they could pierce both of Taylor's ears at the same time. I was afraid after one piercing, she would refuse to have the second ear pierced.

She picked out the earrings of her choice that ended up being the cutest Hello Kitty earrings. After 5 minutes of fussing over where the holes should be, both ladies counted to three while Taylor grasped on to the chair. I think I was more nervous than her. I was feeling really hot and could feel my heart beating with intensity. Taylor was quiet. I asked again if she really wanted to do this and she said yes.

Within a blink of an eye, her little ears were pierced and she instantly aged a few years. My little girl is growing up so quickly! Taylor said it didn't hurt, it just stung a little. Another little girl was watching Taylor get her ears pierced and decided she wanted to do it too. Since Taylor fared well, she thought she could do it too. So proud of my little girl for facing her fear head on.

We've been talking about this day for years. I simply just told Taylor that it does hurt a little bit like a shot and when she decides she is ready, we would do it. I told her she might be 3 or 30 or decide never to pierce her ears....it was all up to her. She was in control. And it worked out beautifully that way.

NEW 52 | Sanctuary on Camelback

For Hank's 35th birthday, my parents treated the both of us to a spa day at the Sanctuary on Camelback. Neither one of us had ever been to this beautiful resort nestled on Camelback Mountain. My parents offered to watch the kids so we could enjoy the day away. I must say...we had a fabulous time...from the potent massage that relaxed us to the point of a slight induced coma to the poolside snack and leisure reading. The best thing was that all of this...even the day off from work...was a complete surprise to Hank. We are so incredibly blessed!

NEW 52 | Ryland Goes to the Dentist

Ryland had his first dental appointment this week. The little stinker wouldn't budge one bit and open his mouth for the hygienist or even the dentist. Finally at my request, the dentist tried to pry open his mouth and at least take a quick peek at his chompers. So straddled in my lap, the deed was done. Everything look fine to the well-trained eye. I am hoping in six months that he will actually open his mouth for a much-needed cleaning and exam.

Another full week for us. Highlights included a family dinner over at my in-laws with Kendrie, Josh and Laila; afternoons naked in the backyard (the kids...definitely not me); making white chocolate dipped strawberries for dessert; and a sleepover for Taylor at Grandma and Grandpa's house with her cousin Laila.

...a visit to the ENT doctor for Ryland's chronic croup; a playdate at McDonalds with the Millers; and our fall family photos.

The week started off with Ballet Under the Stars at a local park with our friends Jackie and Margot. And then on Wednesday, Taylor and Landon both wore their P.E. shirts for the first time together.

NEW 52 | Ballet Under the Stars

Taylor and Landon have a special friend at school named Margot. The relationship started off last year with Landon and Margot becoming good buddies in their toddler class. This year Landon, Margot and Taylor are all in the preschool class and love to "work" with each other. So if I ask, "Who is Margot's best friend?" Both Taylor and Landon reply "me". My kids equally love Margot, and it is a sweet friendship they all share. So when Margot's mommy asked us if we wanted to check out Ballet Under the Stars with them and the event was free, we immediately took them up on the offer.

We arrived 30 minutes early and the park had already filled itself with lots and lots of senior citizens. Some who thought dancing children in the aisles were delightful and some who thought they were detestable. It was a memorable event to say the least, and we all had a great time. Can't wait to do this again next year!

NEW 52 | Family Staycation

We are seriously blessed! Some really great friends who have such kind, generous hearts treated our little family of five to a three-night staycation at a local resort in north Scottsdale. Hank wanted to keep this "trip" a surprise but ended up telling me the details because he was a bit excited. As a family of five, we have never done a staycation before. Now, I realize how important it is to get away for a few days with our kids to hang out and play. So the first two nights, the kids stayed with us at the hotel. They loved every minute of it. They gave us the one room that backs up to the kids playground. Literally, we would open the back glass sliding door and the kids walked 10 feet to the playground. We spent lots of time at the pool and wandering Scottsdale to find a fun place to eat.

The very first night, we literally ran into some very good friends. We ended up meeting up with them for dessert. Our three kids and their four kids made quite the scene with melted frozen yogurt all over their cute little faces. This night, Taylor leaned over and whispered in my ear that she was having such a great time and that she was really excited. This made me realize how important it is to create special memories for our kids.

We spent lots of time by the pool and enjoying our family of five. Saturday morning, we dropped the kids off with my in-laws who lovingly watched the kids for us so that Hank and I could have 24 hours alone. Such a treat!

On Saturday we took the kids to Lowes Build & Grow project, and it was really fun for the kids. Those photos were a big part of this week's Project Life.

Today we took the kids for the first time to our local Lowes for their bimonthly Build & Grow project. It's a free event specifically created for children. Today's project was to build a police car. He's such a brute.

This week my parents came over for a sleepover. My kids always love the extra attention and my dad plays with them continually. My mom worked on numbers and letters with Taylor as Landon was more interested in playing with Opa. Then after my parents left, I came down with strep throat. By Friday, I had made it to the doctor and was able to get antibiotics for strep throat. Being sick changed a lot of our weekend plans but that was OK too.

We met Grandpa and Grandma for donuts to kick off the Labor Day weekend. We also celebrated Grandma Gloria's 77th birthday. What a great milestone!

Week 34: Project Life

Week 34 was all about back to school. And it was a great week! Taylor and Landon are in the same preschool class while little brother Ryland attends the toddler class a few days a week. Ryland didn't cry one bit when they took him out of his carseat and into the school. It was almost like he was being released into the wild and awestruck by the giant playground that would soon be his to overtake. I have a few photos that I took when I picked the three kids up on the first day showing Ryland crying. He cries occasionally when I pick him up from school. I guess he then realizes that I've been away from him and that he misses Mommy.

The rest of the week was all about playdates both for the kids and for me. I have such a privilege to meet with some special friends on a bi-weekly basis who I went to high school and/or college with. This group of girls were also committed to Young Life and we did ministry together. So it's like old times when we get together and it is wonderful! We also had a play date with the Mac Pack...some of our besties. Taylor's favorite toy to play with was baby Carly who isn't even two months old yet. And to end the week, we celebrated back to school with our Wyld Life kids by having a pool party and BBQ. The junior highers are so sweet to my kids...especially Taylor who thinks that she is one of them.

Week 33: Project Life

This week, on August 17, Ryland turned two years old. We had a small family party for him at our home. He absolutely loved the cupcakes and couldn't keep his hands off of them...literally.

My message to him on our family blog is what I printed and included in the scrapbook.

The rest of the week consisted of his 2 year well check, playing the drums (his birthday gift), eating leftover cupcakes for breakfast (yes, I let him do it for one morning), and his birthday photo shoot at the library. Many of you have figured out that Ryland does not like to pose for the camera or even smile...that's fine really. He just makes it more of a challenge for me and my photographer friends.

This page focuses on the open house night at their school and the fact that this will be Ryland's first year in the toddler program. I also included his growth charts that my pediatrician provided to me. This also marks the very last week of summer. Hallelujah!

Back to School

I didn't shed a tear when I sent the baby of the bunch off to school today for the very first time. I remember crying hard when I dropped Taylor off...and then my eyes were teary eyed when I first dropped off Landon...and then today I was dry as a bone. Ha!

It's not that I won't miss my little man...it's just that he is ready on so many levels. I found out today that the toddler program is being shortened to three days a week so that means I will still have my sidekick to hang with a couple of mornings a week.

Ryland seemed a little confused when they took him out of his carseat at carpool today. He is used to watching his siblings leaving him in the backseat, but today he was finally able to join them. I was told he did quite well and did all types of "work" today and even put his work back. I swear this school has some magic trick up their sleeve to get the kids to mind them and clean up after their messes.

So really, the only tears that were shed were the ones when Ryland first saw me in the car waiting to pick him up. He finally realized he was away from his mommy and wanted me. Ahhh! I felt so loved. It was a great first day of school. Landon didn't say much.... He did enjoy sitting by Taylor and being in the same class as his big sister. And Taylor was so happy to see her friends from last school year returning back today. Today was a big day for our family, and I am so excited to see how the year pans out!

Ryland's Photo Shoot

Today my friend Lori tried to take photos of Ryland to mark his 2nd birthday. She chose the public library closest to our house which is quite nice. I was a tad bit nervous because bringing my three kids to the library is intense...they are all wandering in different directions and I usually get to the point where I say, "Enough is enough! Let's go." And then it takes me a few more weeks to forget the endurance the library requires and bring them back. Well...today was no different.

If I didn't bring in Ryland's favorite blanket half way through the session, I don't think he would have sat long enough for Lorie to even snap a crisp, clean photo. I'm sure she took at least a good dozen of photos that I will love. And really, I'm not that picky. So the photo above is one of the rejects obviously. I was trying to make Ryland walk towards Lorie...and instead he ran from me thinking we were playing a really cool game.

Ryland Turns 2

I remember August 17, 2009 like it was yesterday. It was Taylor's first day of school at Sunrise Montessori and Landon who was just barely one year old and would be taken care of by Grandma and Grandpa. Since you were in a unique position in my belly...you were diagonal... a c-section would be required. I was a bit relieved that I wouldn't have to go through the torture of labor and was so anxious to meet my baby boy that I wasn't really scared at all.

I can joke around now that your personality was evident even in the womb. You are quite stubborn at times and it's your way or no way. But I appreciate all of you...not just pieces of you. You were virtually holding up your head as they took you from my belly and all of the medical staff reported how strong you were. You are still that strong little man today. You are so coordinated that we know you will excel at whatever sport you choose.

And since you were my first baby to come via c-section, I let you sleep next to me...more often than not. This is something your siblings didn't really get to experience. To this very day, you are my affectionate little boy, and I hope that never changes.

Ryland, I am so incredibly blessed to be your Mommy. I thank God for the third and final addition to our family that you are. You bring complete joy. In fact, we gave you the middle name "Asher" meaning "my joy is complete." Indeed...100%...you complete our family the best way possible.

I'm sad that you are no longer my baby. In a matter of days, you will be attending school yourself and joining the toddler class just like Taylor and Landon once did. I'm gonna tell the teachers to watch out for you. You weren't affectionately given the nicknames "monster" and "nut job" for no reason :-) But I know you will win your teachers over just like you win us over each and every single day. I love you Ry Ry! You are a miracle to me....

Week 32: Project Life

The beginning of week 32 consisted of our girls getaway day at the Westin Kierland Resort. We spent the morning relaxing around the pool, laying in the lazy river and playing Scrabble. On our way home, we stopped by Nothing Bundt Cakes where I was able to try their famous cakes for the very first time.

Our days this week consisted of Playdough at home (never again), a princess birthday party for Taylor's friend Rylan, and Ryland's first visit to the childcare at Fry's grocery store.

On the back of the previous page, I included photos from the week that I had blogged about as well as the special notes included.

My last spread included photos from our triple date on Tuesday night and the luau that our HOA threw on Friday night. Another fun week. The kids start school next Monday and I'm excited about the challenge and change that it will bring to our home.

The Story of Us

Thankfully summer is coming to a close. While I have enjoyed my kiddos immensely this summer, it's time to send them to school. In a couple of weeks, all three kids will start back up at their Montessori school. Here are some of my thoughts from today.

RYLAND: You make my heart melt. Just looking at this photo makes me want to burst into tears because you are so perfect. I love how you enjoy dressing up just as much as your big sister. I often find you in just a diaper and cowboy boots walking around the house. Or you like to grab Daddy's shoes and Landon's policeman hat. Today you amazed me by peeing on the potty not once but twice. You are so smart, and I can't wait to see you soar at school.

TAYLOR: You could have buzzed your entire head and you would still have been as beautiful as ever. You learned the hard way to not cut your own hair. In fact, today you told me you made a very big mistake. I didn't scold you for cutting your hair because you are just a kid and we all make mistakes. I was more concerned with your heart and know how you get embarrassed easily. I want to remind you that God made you perfect and complete...not lacking anything.

LANDON: You amazed me today at karate. You are so considerate of others but are learning to take charge...maybe a little too much when I see you pushing down your big sister. For the past two nights you had me rub your knees because you are growing and it was hurting. It kind of hurts my heart as well to watch you quickly grow up into a little man. I pray for God's best for you and know you seek His ways. Also, I have to say you are quite talented when playing the drums in the shower. Your rendition of Old McDonald Had a Farm was right on the money!

NEW 52: Nothing Bundt Cakes

This past weekend when I was in north Scottsdale with my good friend Brenda, she made me pull over to this little bakery called "Nothing Bundt Cakes" and told me I just had to try a piece. She was buying several of the small cakes to bring home to her family. So after enjoying every morsel of the sample piece, I decided to take home a red velvet bundt cake. I just became the proud owner of my very own "Nothing Bundt Cake" and it sure was delicious. When I brought it home, Taylor noticed it immediately and asked for a bite. I would say all three kids demolished the cake while Hank and I were able to steal a quick bite or two. I will definitely be returning back to this cake store.

Week 31: Project Life

This week was quick. I worked two days, took the kids swimming with our sidekick Brynlie and tried to teach Landon how to properly wear his underwear. He likes to wear them backwards for some reason...such a boy!

I blew up a photo I took at the Deer Valley Airport because Landon really loved this airplane.

Landon has been making HUGE progress when it comes to writing his letters. He used to refuse writing since I couldn't get him to hold the pencil the right way.

This page shows photos of the bird houses that the kids painted at Gymboree. Some highlights from the week also include putting glow-in-the-dark stars on the boys' ceiling, getting Taylor a princess castle for staying dry at night, taking the kids to the Deer Valley Airport for lunch with our friends, and a little 24-hour vacation for me and a couple of girlfriends.

NEW 52: Westin Kierland Resort & Spa

A couple of girlfriends and I bid on a gorgeous hotel through Priceline.com and planned an overnight stay at this swanky hotel. It was perfect in every way. We spent most of our time by the pool and enjoying the lazy river. Being raised in Arizona for most of my life, I have only stayed in a handful of hotels. I would have to say so far, this one is my favorite. And it was in such a fun part of town. We were able to walk around the shops and enjoy a yummy dinner in the Kierland area.

Week 30: Project Life

Sunday was the last day of our girls trip in southern California. We spent most of Sunday on Balboa Island and took a two-hour boat cruise checking out all of the gorgeous homes. We were even lucky enough to capture seals swimming next to our Duffy boat. I enjoyed taking photos of this beautiful place!

This week also included photos of Landon at his karate class and Taylor at her dance class. I brought home candy kabobs for the kids with soft gummy candies shaped like sealife creatures. I didn't know if Landon would have a hard time eating the Nemo candy, but he gobbled it up. And I took this photo of Ryland as we drove through the automatic carwash this week. He recently started to cover his eyes when he gets scared. It's so sweet and whenever I see him covering his eyes, we ultimately find each other for comfort....me to comfort my baby and for him to be safe with his momma.

Week 29: Project Life

Week 29 was a busy week for me. I worked more than normal, squeezed in two little trips, and stayed busy with the kids even when it's 110 outside. The kids have less than a month before preschool starts!

Sunday, July 17: Hank and I took our friends, Jim and Shannon, who we lead Wyld Life with up to visit Lost Canyon in Williams, AZ. The weather was gorgeous. And seeing camp life in action brought back so many wonderful memories. We ran into so many people who impacted our lives one way or another. I was able to visit with Kathy, one of my leaders from Arcadia HS. She was so surprised to see me and overjoyed with tears to hear that we are still a part of the Young Life Ministry.

The next photo is from a playdate at Monica and Rylan's house. All 4 kids came out of the princess play room all dressed up. This will be good ammo for the future. Ha! And the last photo includes our hospital visit to see our babysitter Hannah who broke her hip this week. :-( The right side of the album includes a map of southern California and some photos of the view from my parents house. Every summer, a group of 12+ of us have an annual girls trip to San Clemente. This was our 9th trip and I think I've made all but one of them because I was still nursing Landon and couldn't leave him.

I have some really awesome photos of our harbor cruise in Balboa but since they were taken on Sunday, I will feature those photos in Week 30. I'm so thankful for this photography/scrapbooking project...it preserves our memories in detail and feeds my creative drive.

NEW 52: e-mealz

Today I signed up for a new meal plan makeover system. I am finding I have little time to search for meals, cut coupons, and grocery shop. I can't do it all and honestly, I don't want to do it all...I don't want to spend every waking free moment devoted to getting the best deal and providing a healthy meal....even though that is my goal. So I am going to depend on some outside help from e-mealz for just $5 a month. Let's hope this one works and saves us money!

Week 28: Project Life

The Lord knew this coming week was going to be CRAZY for me so he allowed last week to be simple and easy. I found a fun little pool on clearance and the kids have been in it every day. Highlights from last week include getting ice cream for the first time from our neighborhood ice cream truck, a birthday party for Landon's little girlfriend named Margot, Ryland carrying at least one blanket at a time with him around everywhere, and an overnight trip up north to Flagstaff without the kiddos. 5 weeks left until school starts!

Week 27: Project Life

Our week told through pictures:

{On July 3, we took the kids to the Arizona Mills Mall in Tempe. First we ate a yummy lunch at the Rainforest Cafe (the best restaurant for kids/families in my opinion) and then we walked over to the AZ Sealife Aquarium. We have been to a few different aquariums before, but we really enjoyed this one. It was air conditioned, clean and got to see the animals we wanted including seahorses, sharks, starfish and eels.}

{After our excursion in Tempe, we drove over to our friends, the Migrays, to swim, eat dinner and walk over to the Wigwam Resort to catch their annual July 3rd fireworks. As we were walking, it lightly started to drizzle so it cooled off the evening and we sat on the golf course and enjoyed the show. I brought my tripod and captured some amazing fireworks. I wanted to include those in my Project Life book so I did! On the evening of July 4th, we headed to the Peoria Sports Complex and parked in a randon parking lot to get a good view of the fireworks. Who knew lots of other families had the same exaxt idea. We had a tailgate party from the back of our cars and enjoyed the show with family.}

{Grandma Carol takes the kids to the city swim lessons on the days I work. Thankfully, she joined me one day so that I could let her be in the pool with Ryland while I took photos of all of these kids during their class. I have lots of photos from this second day of class.}

NEW 52: Neighborhood Ice Cream Truck

As a little girl who spent my summers in Canada, neighborhood ice cream trucks were common...not so much in Arizona. So when we saw a "van" rolling through our neighborhood with its loud, obnoxious music blaring, I knew exactly what it was. I quickly grabbed some money and my camera and took a photo of Hank walking the kids over to the ice cream van. They loved it! They keep asking when the ice cream man will come back by. Ryland wasn't willing to share his coconut popsicle with me, but Landon was eager to give me the last piece of his ice cream sandwich. Taylor scarfed hers down before I could even ask for a bite. I love reliving my childhood memories through my children.

Fireworks & The 4th

Sunday afternoon we headed over to our friend's house to swim and eat dinner together before heading to the Wigwam for their annual fireworks show. Since they held their show on Sunday, July 3, we were able to catch two nights of fireworks back-to-back. Monday night we headed over with Hank's side of the family to watch the fireworks at the Peoria Sports Complex. Now my kids don't understand why they have to wait a full year to see the fireworks again. I asked Landon if he liked the fireworks, he told me he liked the colors but not the loud "bam". That's OK because he sat on my lap during both shows, and I got to cuddle with him while Taylor was socializing with everyone else and Ryland was laying low with his Daddy.

NEW 52: Rainforest Cafe & AZ Sealife Aquarium

This week Hank took an extra day off from work and we had a 4-day weekend together. Of course I took on the task of planning our days together here in the heat and wanted to make the most of our time together. Since we couldn't be in southern California with my family, we had to make our time here enjoyable and incorporated lots of indoor activities.

I've been to the Rainforest Cafe a couple of times, but we have never taken our kids there. I knew they would love it.... I guess I just forgot how awesome the restaurant is with their jungle animals that move and make sounds, rain encompassing us while we eat underneath the stars, and the live fish...even Nemo was there!

After lunch, we walked over to the AZ Sealife Aquarium and checked out the 5,000 sea critters including sharks, eels, seahorses, starfish and lots of Nemos. Taylor and Landon were brave enough to pet the starfish...not even I would do that. Ryland was content in the stroller checking everything out. We stayed long enough for the shark feeding. It was quite obvious that these sharks are well fed because they weren't interested in eating off the poles to entertain us. It's OK though, they came close enough to the glass to make our hairs stand on our necks. Even Taylor was a little freaked out when they got so close...only and inch of glass separating us from these sharks. I would definitely recommend this place!

NEW 52: Teaching My Children Empathy

This week, my friend Stephanie who lives in California told me that her daughter Ella, had been to the doctor repeatedly for a week-long fever. Finally this week after some blood tests, the doctors were able to diagnose sweet, little Ella with mono. I remember a good friend in elementary school had mono and it was awful. She had no strength and missed several weeks of school. When Stephanie told me that Ella had to have blood drawn from her tiny arms, I was sad. Personally, childbirth is almost as bad as the blood draw and IV setting process. I hate it, and I am a wimp. So knowing Ella was being picked and prodded made me sad.

So I came home and told Taylor the news...that her friend Ella was very sick and probably could use some cheering up. I've sent a few care packages in my past, but I've never taught Taylor how to do it. This was a great lesson on empathy. So after Taylor and I decided on a care package, we headed to Target to get our supplies.

Of course my kids wanted "stuff" too, but I was trying hard to not make this about them and told them we were only here to get stuff for Ella. Honestly, I did pick most of the stuff out myself, but Taylor had a say too. She really helped me while I managed the boys.

So this week I mailed off the care package and knew Ella would be receiving it today. All day I was reminding Taylor that today was the day to surprise Ella. I told her I had asked Stephanie to take some photos and email them to me to show Taylor. As soon as I saw the smile on Ella's face and pointed that out to Taylor, we both smiled together. This was such a unique way to teach my children, mainly Taylor, about empathy. And the results were successful in brightening a sick little girl's day!

Where's Waldo

Grandma Carol took the kids to the library on Tuesday while I was at work. And yes, she should earn a medal just for that. It's rough taking three wanderers to our public library because there is so much to see and explore. Well Grandma Carol introduced Taylor to the Where's Waldo books and Taylor has been mesmerized since. I remember loving these books when I was in elementary school but not age four. I'm amazed that Taylor has the patience and endurance to sit there and try to find these miniature characters in a very crowded, artistic space.

So today while Taylor and Landon were at Gymboree, I took one kid with me who really equates to three children, but we accomplished our mission...to check out our very own Where's Waldo. Who knew the library would be wiped out of almost every Where's Waldo book. The lovely ladies dug through the return pile for me to find one to bring home to my darling Waldo lover. This should make for some fun summer entertainment...at least for awhile.

NEW 52: Kimberly Ann's Victorian Tea Room & Cafe

I'm taking part in a new project call NEW 52 where I am encouraged to try something new, whether big or small, once a week for a full year. So today my friend Carrie and I took our girls to a Victorian style tea and lunch. The food was so yummy. Thankfully we bought our tickets for half off through Groupon, otherwise the tea could have been quite pricey. This was both a first for Taylor and I. And it was special that we were able to experience this together with some good friends.
